For the past six years, Miguel have been working as an Occupational Safety and Health Consultant for the Hospitality Industry as the owner of his consulting firm. Its customers experienced the reduction of the liability levels through his development of Interactive Certifications, Customized Manuals, Mitigation Strategies, and OJT Programs. His added value includes 17 years of experience in the Quick Service Restaurant Industry working for McDonald’s Corporation where he started as a part-time employee while studying his Business Administration Bachelor with a specialization in Management. He worked the fields of: Operations, Learning & Development and Human Resources with Labor Relations; achieving the position of Divisional Human Resources Manager with projects across the Caribbean. His scope of responsibility included the markets of Puerto Rico, Aruba, Curacao, St. Thomas, St. Croix, and Jamaica. He also supported the markets of Dominican Republic, Guadeloupe, Martinique, French Guiana, Suriname, St. Maarten, and Bahamas.

 

Miguel is a Certified Worksite Wellness Specialist (CWWS) from the National Wellness Institute (NWI) and has educational credits for an International Business Master. During his professional career he followed a mid-management educational path, including several courses offered by universities in the United States and the Franklin Covey Institute. As a Learning & Development Consultant he was certified in facilitation & presentation techniques applied while teaching management courses in Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. As business owner he completed the Leadership School from “Fundación Rafael Hernández Colón”, the Entrepreneurial Course from the Incubator “Caguas Compite”; in addition to several courses from the Small Business Administration (SBA) and the NGO Mercy Corps. 

 

In the OH&S field he completes regulatory courses from OSHA, the American Society of Safety Professionals, the World Safety Organization and the National Safety Council in a regular basis. Some highlighted courses are: 30 HRS. General Industry offered by the Puerto Rico OSHA Office, the 10 HRS. Construction Industry while attending a World Safety Organization Congress in Las Vegas, the OHST Prep Course from ASSE and the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) offered by the State Emergency Response Agency. Miguel hold current or previous professional affiliations from the National Wellness Institute, National Safety Council, National Fire Protection Association, and World Safety Organization. 

 He is an active member of the American Society of Safety Professionals (previously ASSE) since 2013 and had been involved with the Latin America Group supporting the Spanish speaking initiatives for its membership development.  On 2017 he was one of the presenters for the Spanish Program in the Professional Development Conference held in Denver, CO. He shared his knowledge and experience in a dynamic session titled: Implementing Worksite Wellness Strategies to Improve OH&S. Miguel is working with a group of colleagues to develop an ASSP chapter in Puerto Rico as a significant tool to support its members on preventing accidents and protecting people lives. The local members will have their first election at the end of 2019 for the founding.
